Urban Eyecare is a modern optometry clinic and optical boutique with two locations in Calgary, AB. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant/ Optician to join our team at our South Calgary location in Lake Chaparral. This role is essential in providing exceptional patient care and support within our optometry practice. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping others, and will play a vital role in ensuring smooth office operations while assisting with patient interactions and optical sales. 
 
Responsibilities
- Assist optometrists during patient examinations by preparing the examination room and ensuring all necessary equipment is ready for use.
- Manage patient flow by greeting patients, checking them in, and obtaining necessary medical history information.
- Utilize electronic medical records to document patient information accurately and efficiently.
- Provide excellent patient care by answering questions, addressing concerns, and ensuring comfort during visits.
- Educate patients on proper contact lens care and eyewear options, promoting optical products effectively.
- Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing front desk operations, and handling insurance verifications.
- Collaborate with team members to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Stay updated on the latest optical products and services to assist with retail sales effectively.
 
Qualifications
- Previous experience in an optometry/ optical environment is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with patients of all ages.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment while also being self-motivated.
- Experience in sales or retail sales within an optical setting is advantageous but not required.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential for managing multiple tasks efficiently.

Trendy office located in Southcentre Mall with modern equipment, friendly staff who do all the pre-testing and daily minimum guaranteed. 
 
I am looking for some Tuesday coverage as my associate takes maternity leave starting in August. 
 
Hours can be flexible!
 
Additional days or hours are available if desired! 
 
We have a few locations throughout the city where we can likely fill a full-time schedule as well if that is what you are looking for.

Primary responsibilities:

• Answer phone calls, schedule appointments and recall patients for eye health exams

• Manage referrals and reports to ophthalmology and family physicians

• Submit and reconcile third party insurance billings

• Order, receive and dispense retail contact lenses

• Manage retail inventory of eye drops and contact lens solutions

• Perform diagnostic imaging such as retinal photography and OCT imaging

• Prepare of exam rooms for patients

• Train patients to insert, remove and care for contact lenses

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, suppliers and patients

Requirements:

• Excellent communication and customer service skills

• Self-motivated and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills

• Strong critical thinking skills and confidence to manage diverse patient interactions

• Passionate about providing compassionate care to patient of all ages

• Interest in learning and sharing knowledge with team members and patients

• Intermediate computer skills (Windows 11, email, LibreOffice or Microsoft Office)

• 1+ years of experience or completion of an optometric assistant program is preferred
