Session Details:
ISP, the AAO government relations firm will take attendees through a immersive tour of government relations. This session will:
– Provide a fulsome overview on government in Alberta, how it works, and what is key to advocacy/lobbying
– Give an overview of the key structures, personnel, and dynamics within both elected and non-elected government.
– Cover some lobbying/ advocacy basics, what to do/ not do, what to keep in mind
– Highlight important cyclical pieces and interest groups that should be considered when structuring advocacy
– Touch on issues of the day that are currently top of mind for government and may impact the AAO's advocacy
Learning Outcomes:
Objectives and learning outcomes are for attendees to better understand the structures of government, get a sense of the key issues of the day, learn the cycles that impact advocacy and how to leverage them, and learn about the key stakeholders in government who they may be connecting with.

Andre Corbould, OMM, P.Eng., FCAE, ICD.D
Andre’s distinguished career spans over four decades in senior leadership roles across municipal and provincial governments and the Canadian Urban Institute. As Managing Partner at ISP, he aligns organizational objectives with decision-makers to advance projects efficiently.
Previously, Andre served as Edmonton’s City Manager (2021–2024), leading implementation of the City Plan, pandemic recovery, and wildfire relief efforts. In Alberta’s government, he held multiple Deputy Minister roles, including Municipal Affairs, Transportation, Education, and Environment and Parks, as well as leading the Flood Recovery Task Force.
A Canadian Urban Institute fellow, Andre contributes insights on urban mental health and community vibrancy. His military service includes commanding domestic and international missions in Iraq, Kuwait, East Timor, Bosnia, and Afghanistan, retiring as Brigadier General after leading security operations at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and NATO missions in Afghanistan.
Andre holds degrees in civil engineering, management, and defence policy.
