Spring Symposium 2026

When:  May 24, 2026 from 08:30 AM to 03:00 PM (MT)

Gonioscopy and Anterior Segment Lesion Skills Transfer Workshop

This immersive, in-person clinical symposium offers a highly practical, case-based learning experience designed to build Optometrists’ advanced skills related to gonioscopy for primary care and laser decision making. This symposium also covers anterior eye lesion triage, diagnosis and management. The program has a strong emphasis on transfer of skills into everyday practice, combining pre-symposium online learning with interactive, hands-on workshops.

Part 1 focuses on gonioscopy and anterior segment OCT angle assessment for general Optometrists as well as those interested in laser-related clinical decision-making. Through real-world cases, participants will refine their ability to assess angle anatomy, identify appropriate candidates for intervention, and determine when to monitor, refer, or consider procedural care. The session also highlights effective OD–OMD collaboration and referral communication.

Part 2 features an image-based, interactive workshop on lid and ocular surface lesions, emphasizing recognition, triage, and sound clinical judgment. Participants will gain clarity around when reassurance and observation are appropriate, when referral is warranted, and when intervention is not indicated.

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate between 3-mirror, 4-mirror, and indentation gonioscopy techniques and apply them to laser decision-making.
  • Identify key angle structures using gonioscopy and anterior segment OCT imaging.
  • Apply basic case-based principles to support safe and appropriate laser planning.
  • Describe best practices for OD–OMD collaboration and referral communication.
  • Distinguish benign from suspicious ocular lesions of the lids, conjunctiva, and cornea.
  • Determine appropriate management, referral, or observation pathways, including situations where lesion removal is not indicated.
